日曜日のお昼が最悪の時間になってしまった。

家族４人で外出中、交差点手前で追突された。前方が完全に渋滞だったので自車は停車中。
運転席に主人、後部座席に私、チャイルドシートに当時保育園児の息子が座っていた。
相手車はセダンに男性が一人で運転中で、スピードはそれほど落とさず衝突。

私は息子の世話をしていたため身体を乗り出して斜めにしていた。
息子はチャイルドシートのおかげか何ともなかった。
主人はバックミラー越しにスピードを落とさない後続車が見えていたため、衝突直前に身構えていたらしい。

私だけが衝撃を大きく受けた事故だった。

話をしやすかった自分の保険会社、話をしたくない相手側保険会社

交差点を避けて両車とも路肩によけ、警察へ通報。事故の記録を取られた後、近くのコンビニ駐車場へ移動し保険会社へ連絡。
保険会社では100対0事故なので相手保険会社とのやりとりについてアドバイスをする旨の説明があった。
担当者は私の話を聞きながら都度、軽く質問に答えつつ、話を進めてくれる。

事故時の対応に本当に精通した人物だなあ、そして人の話を聞き取り回答しつつ、上手く説明してくれるものだなあと感心した。
相手側保険会社からの連絡は、ずいぶん時間がたった後だった。
事故日が日曜日だったので翌日の月曜日以降は主人は電話をとれないため、私宛にどんどん電話がかかってくる。

パートの仕事をしている合間に複数の担当者から電話があるので、本当に参ってしまった。

通院もままならない共働き家庭の苦しさ

整形外科は月曜日に息子と受診し、息子に異常や痛みがないことが確認できたので、その点が一番ホッとした。
警察署へ提出する治療見込みの診断書を取得し、後日、交通課へ持って行った。
すると、「人身扱いにするんですか」と聞かれた。

調書を作成し、署名捺印しながら少し警察官と話をした。
百ゼロの被害者に通常、「人身にするの？」なんて言う話ではないため、ああ、相手方の男性は公務員などの「身内」だなと思った。
当時、パートで県庁の人事で働いており、事故・事件、不祥事などの問題が続々と集まってきていた。

後日、職場にその日の事故の情報は入ってこなかったので、おそらく市役所関連か警察関連か、そのあたりの人物なのだろうかと思った。
私のケガは治療見込みの診断書によると「10日程度の治療を要する」と書かれていたが、痛みは続き、仕事中も辛かった。
当時、パートしながら保育園の送り迎え、息子の病気治療（事故以外の）で通院が続いていたため、

私の治療のために時間を割くこともできず、仕事を早退することもできず、通院は実質的に出来ない状態だった。
その間、相手側からも保険会社からも連絡はなかった。
なかったけれど、それで負担を感じずに済んだというのが本音だった。

自分が加入する保険だけでもしっかりとした会社に加入すべき

主人と息子が大したことなかったのならそれでよい、私もむち打ち・打撲で済んだのだと言い聞かせ、
事故から3週間過ぎたあたりで相手保険会社の書類に記入し、すぐ返送した。
早く完了させて、事故の件から手を切りたかったからだ。

加害者から面倒な家庭だと思われるのも嫌だったし、
職場から通院が多いな（その時は子どもの病気の件のみでしたが）と思われるのも嫌だった。
毎日がそれどころではない忙しい生活だった。共働きのキツさが凝縮されたような時期だったのだ。

相手保険会社に書類が届いたころ、通院先に確認したと電話が入った。
わが家が加入しているソニー損保の担当者とは打って変わって話し方もたどたどしく、論点がよくわからなかった。
けむに巻く話法なのかもと、悪い印象をもった。

整形外科としては保険会社に、まだ治療中だと主張したらしい。
私が誤って早めに書類を出したのだろうと気を使ってくれたようだ。
事故は嫌なもの。

自分が加入している保険会社は話もしやすく詳しく説明もしてくれる。
こういう担当者に支えてもらえたから相手側保険会社とも何とか話が出来たが、もし事故の相手が無保険だったり、脅してくるような相手だったら、人生を狂わされていたのではと怖くなる。
自分が加入する保険だけでも、しっかりとした会社に加入すべきだと実感した。
